A collection of my thoughts as I work my butt off (hopefully literally!) to hear the words, "Amy Reynolds, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!"

One race down, many more to go!
We started the New Year off with a 3.5 mile race in Albany, NY. The weather was not normal for this time in New York but it was great for running - sunny and mid 40s! The course was nice, there were a lot of runners, and it felt great to be out running. I felt strong during the run and finished in 30:34, a 8:44 per mile pace - very happy with that! Looking forward to a great year!

Another race on the calendar
When a friend mentioned he was going to run the Virginia Beach Half-marathon in March, we thought that sounded like fun so Jason and I signed up too! Looking forward to it!
I went for a little run today and feel pretty good. The weather is a bit crazy - almost 60 degrees in December! But it was nice to be able to run outside without having to bundle up.

Early morning workout
Made it out of bed and to the basement again this morning to workout. Did 45 minutes on elliptical, abs and weights. Legs were a little tired from Saturday's spin class but other than that, I felt good. It really is nice to get my workout done, and get showered and ready for the day before the kids wake up!

Spinning Away
Not sure what happened with my workouts the rest of the week... But this morning I decided to try out a spin class at the gym. There's a Gold's Gym just a few minutes from our house and you can get a pass just for classes. I got there a few minutes early so I could get the bike all figured out and as soon at the clock hit 9 AM, the instructor was yelling at us to pedal faster, add resistance, off the saddle, back in the saddle, and all kinds of other things. The hour went by so fast and I was soaked by the end! It was a great workout and a nice change from my basement rides on the trainer. I'm feeling pretty good now but have a feeling I may not be able to walk tomorrow...

It's always something...
So I tried to get up early again the last two mornings, but Conner hasn't been feeling well and I've been up with him a bit. I remember thinking this morning as I was headed back to bed around 3 am, there was no way I was getting up in less than 3 hours! So off the alarm went...
But I headed back to the basement during their afternoon nap. When we were home over Thanksgiving, my dad gave me a set of aero bars that he didn't need anymore. Jason had loosely attached them and I decided I would "quickly" tighten them up before getting started. And yes, if you caught it, I have not been on my bike since Thanksgiving :(
Anyway, tightening them took a lot longer than I thought it should, but I have them good enough for now. Then I had to adjust the trainer so it was at the right resistance (again, took longer than I thought it should...) I finally started to ride, then Conner started to fuss... So up the stairs I went to check on him and convince him that he was not all done sleeping. Back on the bike, rode about 10 minutes, Conner fussed, up the stairs, repeat... I did about a 30 minute ride and a good stair workout! But I didn't feel great on the bike, just couldn't get into a good rhythm. So I wasn't really thrilled with the workout, but it's better than nothing!

5:45 AM is really early..
I'm not sure what I've been doing the last few weeks, but there hasn't been a lot of working out. So Sunday night I decided that something has to change and set my alarm for 5:45 the next morning. When it went off, I actually got up (after just 1 snooze!) and headed to the basement. 45 minutes on the elliptical, abs and weights. I felt really good after the workout and was happy not to have to figure out when to fit it in the rest of the day!

Biggest Loser update
I started a Biggest Loser Contest with the MOMS club last month and today was our one month weigh in. There are 10 people participating and with the 9 that weighed in today, a total of 50 pounds have been lost! I think that is really awesome! I wish I could say I contributed to that number but I actually gained a pound. My weight was all over the place during the month and at one point I had gained 10 pounds! So I feel good that I have gotten back down from that, but do wish I had lost more. It will certainly be a challenge through the next month (with crazy cookie weekend this weekend, going to a football game the next, and several parties and cookie exchanges!) but I am determined to really pay attention to what I am eating and stick to my workouts so that I can contribute to the total weight lost!
